Sir Philip Sidney Astrophil and Stella

"My mouth doth water, my breast doth swell" (Penelope Devereux) With those witty words author Philip Sidney plays indirectly with the name of his beloved Penelope Devereux with whom he is in love. Nonetheless, she marries Lord Rich thereby he decides to write about his impossible love rendering one of the best sonnets in literature history. Now you can read the first verses of Sonnet 6 by Philip Sidney found on his play Astrophil and Stella

Sonnet 6 Astrophil and Stella
Some lovers speak when they their Muses entertain,
Of hopes begot* by fear, of wot** not what desires:
*created **who-knows Of force of heav’nly beams, infusing hellish pain:
Of living deaths, dear wounds, fair storms, and freezing fires.
Some one his song in Jove, and Jove’s strange tales attires*,
*dresses Broidered with bulls and swans, powdered with golden rain;
Another humbler wit to shepherd’s pipe retires,
Yet hiding royal blood full oft in rural vein.
To some a sweetest plaint a sweetest style affords,
While tears pour out his ink, and sighs breathe out his words:
His paper pale despair, and pain his pen doth move.
I can speak what I feel, and feel as much as they,
But think that all the map of my state I display,
When trembling voice brings forth that I do Stella love.

Philip Sidney is an English poet, respected and recognized both because of his plays and life, he died very young in The Netherlands, this and his personality made him a legend. As he critized the Queen of England Elizabeth II who had been married wrongly (according to him) to Duke of Anjou he was olbigued to live retired in the countryside where he started to write, albeit he was not interested in the publication of his plays he defended poetry vividly. This Astrophil and Stella is his masterpiece dedicated to the aforementioned Penelope Devereux, he tries to explain how difficult is to express accordingly the feeling of love through writing and how silly were classic poets when they wrote about love, this poem is a parody of the latest even though he used some of his techniques. With regards to the title, Astrophil and Stella. Aster means star and phil lover in Greek.

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais told some acquaintances of him in 2011 "I am to write such a polemical text with so many nasty jokes that even though people get angry at first they will hire me again to host next year´s Golden Globes Awards ceremony". Ricky Gervais achieved his intention fully. Read this in Spanish Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais
RICKY GERVAIS

Not only his performance that year (2011) is still remembered because of his mordant humour, he was hosting the Golden Globes Awards again in 2012, even though it was not as great as his performance in 2011 perhaps it was better than his first one in 2010.

This year, he is to host the Golden Globes Awards again, his fourth time. In order to celebrate it Ricky Gervais has found a perfect attire as you can see below.

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes

Prior to his performance in 2011, Ricky Gervais was very famous in Great Britain as the creator of The Office, a television series which was subsequently sold to the United States and also thanks to his monologues.

He was also known in the USA because of other television series that is splendid "Extras" but it was after this performance at Golden Globes when he became famous worldwide. Let´s remember his brilliant opening monologue.

He has created other shows like "Derek" or "An idiot abroad", he has appeared on many movies and won many accolades likewise. This was what happened in 2012.

Now Ricky Gervais has been invited again to host 2016 Golden Globes, whatever happens, tonight he is already on television history. Particularly, I can only laugh when seeing him as his jokes, sardonic humour and exquisite command of English are unique. Do rate, share and comment.

Rosie Mac. Game of Thrones

Following my sudden yet short success as Rosie Mac herself, model, dancer, actress and body double of Khaleeshi in Game of Thrones television series, read and shared one of my stories I have decided as a result to write something using a funny picture that Rosie Mac has posted on social media where we see some of her fellow body doubles of Game of Thrones

Rosie Mac
Rosie Mac

After having seen this picture no much more must be added, perhaps that Rosie Mac is from Newcastle, northern England although she has been living in the south of Spain for years, she is only 18 years old and interestingly, she wants to remain chaste until the day she gets married. Will Rosie Mac be a movie star of her own? Will she keep her promise alive? I bet there will not be a shortage of offers for both questions!! Do share, rate and comment.

Novak Djokovic. 2015 record-breaking year

Roger Federer did win 3 Grand Slams losing Roland Garros final against Rafael Nadal back in 2006 as Novak Djokovic has done this year 2015, he has won 3 Grand Slams (two of them beating Roger Federer in the final) but he lost against Wawrinka in the French Open (Roland Garros is the only one major title that has not been conquered by Novak Djokovic). In 2006 Federer had a matchless balance as he won 92 games losing only 5. Novak Djokovic has won 82 matches losing only 6 this 2015. That year, 2006 by Roger Federer it is deemed as the best tennistic year ever performed by a  player in tennis history (ATP history in real terms), yet take a moment to look the incredible 2015 tennis year of Novak Djokovic.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC 2015
Novak Djokovic has played all the finals of the tournaments he has been therein (Doha aside, it was the first one of 2015 season and he lost against Ivo Karlovic in quarter finals). Novak Djokovic has won ATP World Tour Finals in London and 6 Atp World Masters 1000 (the most important ones after the four Grand Slams) he emerged victorious from Shanghai, Paris, Beijing, Rome, Monte Carlo, Indian Wells and Miami but he even had a superb year likewise in 2011 when he won 3 Grand Slams, 10 titles with 70 won matches and only 6 losses. Overall Novak Djokovic has won 10 Grand Slams losing another 8 finals. He has also won Davis Cup with Serbia and he got a bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics, he was also a runner-up with his country Serbia in another edition of Davis Cup. In 2011 he was 41 matches in a row unbeaten until he lost against Roger Federer in the semi-final of Roland Garros at the end of May, 2011. The are other two tennis players who made history as well, Rafael Nadal in 2010 had a memorable year, he won 3 Grand Slams (French Open, Wimbledon and US Open) he lost the final of ATP World Tour Finals against Roger Federer but he for instance won all the major titles played on clay (Roland Garros, Monte Carlo, Rome and Madrid). Similarly, John McEnroe won 2 Grand Slam titles with a balance of 82 won matches, 13 trophies and only 3 losses in 1984.

Let´s go back to the terrific 2015 tennis year of Novak Djokovic, after having lost against Ivo Karlovic in January on the first tennis tournament of 2015, Djokovic has played all the finals of all tournaments of the year losing only the finals of Roland Garros against Wawrinka, Cincinnati and Dubai against Federer and against Murray in Montreal (he lost another minor game in the first round of ATP world Tour Finals against Federer in London). What is more, Novak Djokovic has made history as he has won the mayor number of points ever conquered by a tennis player in ATP history, with so many accolades Will be Novak Djokovic able to repeat this successful 2015 year? Who has performed the best tennistic year ever? Djokovic in 2011 or 2015, Federer in 2006, Rafael Nadal in 2010 or John McEnroe in 1984? Do share and comment. Elements of Elizabeth Bishop´s poem Twelve O'Clock News

Studying this poem oblige us with assuring it is the epitome of New Historicism movement insofar as the key term thought control is conveyed. Likewise, the political voice is evident, yet criticism, sharp though, is hidden subtly. Seldom can we do against the state power, perhaps write a poem like this one. Elizabeth Bishop does not talk in first person nonetheless, she hides herself behind objects, overlaid with a constant analogy with no rhyme at all, the poem hides a harsh reality, a comparison between ordinary objects we see in our home with a piece of news regarding a conflict, you do not notice it the first time you hear the poem thus the metaphor could scarcely be overly dreadful. However devastating however evident is, the state is right, depending on the side you are in, everything is said consequently, thereby you are to be taught under the notion capitalism is right and nothing horrible is taking place in Vietnam War. The theme of this poem is to make us aware of how we are manipulated. Why must we accept this paradoxical poem?. When we start dinner at home tonight a news show concludes as this second part does. (if you want to read the third part of this piece of work about Elizabeth Bishop´s poem 12 O' Clock News follow the link)

As you all know, tonight is the night of the full
moon, half the owrld over. But here the moon
seems to hang motionless in the sky.It gives
very little light, it could be dead. Visibility is poor.
Nevertheless, we shall try to give you some
idea of the lay of the land and the present situation... Elizabeth Bishop

Gascoigne documentary. Is Paul Gascoigne a football legend?

Let´s remember football career of Paul Gascoigne who is making headlines again because of the new documentary about him named Gascoigne that is to be talked about here subsequently. Gascoigne

Paul Gascoigne reached semi-finals both in 1990 World Cup and UEFA EURO 1996 playing for England, similarly, he played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio (Italy) Glasgow Rangers (Scotland), Middlesbrough, Everton, Burnley or Gansu Tianma (China).

He won the FA Cup, 2 Scottish Leagues, one Scottish Cup and one Scottish League Cup. Injuries, diverse scandals and above all his alcoholism ended his career (he was expelled from English national team in 1998 for instance because he was caught drunk, what is more, he tried to punch the English manager because of his decision).

Is Paul Gascoigne a football legend? I am not sure. Even so, I still believe he deserves a documentary as his life and career are interesting and this film Gascoigne it is indeed, we see Wayne Rooney on it whose football style, environment and upbringings are not dissimilar to the ones of Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker also appears who played alongside Gascoigne in English national team and finally Jose Mourinho who is not an Englishman but he is very popular nonetheless.

Gascoigne Documental
Gascoigne

Documentary Gascoigne is interesting, you can see Paul Gascoigne talking sincerely about his life, failures, scandals, excesses yet the easiness with which many attribute extremely positive adjectives to anyone is insulting. Gascoigne

Let me formulate a question; Is Paul Gascoigne a football legend or England, a country in which football is so important and relevant does not have proper legends hence they are always ready to find anything so that having an excuse to produce a documentary? I am afraid to answer it...

About Daft Punk after seeing Daft Punk Unchained

(This eponymous post has been written after seeing recent documentary Daft Punk unchained that tells of the musical career of Daft Punk, a film I recommend everybody interested not only in Daft Punk but also to those who are no averse to music in general and electronic music in particular)

DAFT PUNK
Daft: "Silly or stupid", informal, mainly United Kingdom. Cambridge Dictionary.

In a world where we fight to each other to share content of our lives on social media posing with the best of our looks, when ordinary citizens got madly crazy to become reality television stars we have two musicians from Paris whose face is unknown since they began recording, this was when their adopted their current name Daft Punk.

They started working in Great Britain and one musical pundit from London said "this is only daft punk", the review was negative, yet Daft Punk deemed it as positive thereby their name Daft Punk. Notwithstanding that statement, Daft Punk is regarded nowadays as true artistic quality.

Daft Punk

We are to remember some relevant Daft Punk tunes inside Daft Punk history mentioning another one Harder, better, faster, stronger that is so good that in addition to the skills of Kanye West produced the song Stronger, one of the best recorded in last times.

Get Lucky Daft Punk
Get Lucky, the most popular song from their last album in which they spend 4 years working on it, they did win 5 Grammy Awards, the only one electronic band in music history to win 5 accolades in a single night (overall they have won 7 Grammy awards being nominated another 6 times).

Pharrel Williams and Nile Rodgers are the special guests of Get Lucky

Their first disco was Homework that made them renowned on independent circles, this videoclip with a dog as main protagonist is really good.

Daft Punk scarcely render live concerts. However, when they do it they blow everything apart. For instance, one of the best concerts ever was made in Coachella, Southern California in 2006, their performance is still considered as one of the greatest ever.

Daft Punk is formed by two Parisian people named Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. As their image, look and everything they arrange, we do not know yet what they are to do next.

However, given the quality of everything they produce we have to be alert. Is somebody out there who still believes Daft Punk produce stupid punk music? Perhaps!!!!! Do share and comment.

London pays homage to Eva Gonzalo.

Eva María Gonzalo Torrellas travelled with her beloved Australian friend Kirralee to Peru in August of 2005 to spend a holiday. Apart from being pals, they were also colleagues hence they decided to traverse the aforementioned South American country with a third friend and also coworker Maria from Northern Ireland. These 3 workmates had already visited other European countries such as Austria or Czech Republic when their schedule allowed them to do so. However, this time was to be an utter journey inasmuch as they were going to another continent to cross such a special country as Peru is. At the last minute, Maria did no travel nevertheless, Eva and Kirralee travelled alone consequently living mesmerising adventures as a matter of fact, just like the ones they happily told people while in South America. They had flown from London to Lima through Houston. On the return flight they were going to visit New York City, spend some days there before heading to London one more time because the new scholar year was about to start. They were labouring in a school in Camden, London. Yet, once in Peru and when their holidays were vanishing they decided to see Iquitos, in the north of Peru ending  the vacation therein. In concordance, they took a flight from Peruvian company TANS Peru with such bad luck they passed away in the crash plane that took place in the summer of 2005, the plane fell in a dangerous place close to Pucallpa and Amazon River. From August, 2015 henceforth, these two friends have a never-ending tribute in the London school where they were working. As a result, this place serves as a never ending tribute to these two comrades not only of friendship but also of work and now of eternal residence. Eva was 27 years of age, Kirralee 25 (only two days ahead of being 26 years old).

Eva María Gonzalo Torrellas was born and raised in Tarazona, province of Zaragoza, northern Spain. Prior to visit Peru, Eva said her farewells to friends and relatives as she stayed in Tarazona for a week. When she was 18 years old she had moved to Zaragoza to start college, after ending her University career and worked briefly she went to Bournemouth, Dorset, south of England in order to learn English and work. 2 years later she moved to London, after 3 years in the capital of Britain Eva was working in Camden and living in Hackney that summer of 2005. A Wikipedia page remembers the crash plane.

Eva and Kirra on Wikipedia

Eva rests in Tarazona and Kirralee does it in Australia, yet recent happenings oblige us with assuring and vouch for the fact that Eva and Kirralee will always be present and somehow alive in the city of London, the place where their trip did commence and where now concludes. Do share and comment. Have a good day.
