I thought it was a set-up when I watched it live on television. But it was not, everything was real. After winding Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz up with little gift as they are a couple and both were nominated, comedian Chris Rock addressed the wife of Will Smith about whom she made a joke which was funny on this occasion.

At first, Will Smith laughed but his wife did not in fact she put on an angry face. Seconds later, the famous actor slapped Chris Rock
When Rock reminded him it was a joke about the 90s movie G.I. Jane starred by Demi Moore Will Smith got even angrier and reaffirmed himself.
However, Chris Rock handled the incident with grace and very well keeping his section with dignity, you can see it now.
I strongly believe this joke was funny and the reaction of Will Smith left him in a bad position as his speech did likewise some minutes thereafter when he received the Oscar for best actor.
The irony of this incident is now Chris Rock has seen an unexpected expectation for his new show which has had a rise in its tickets. On the other hand, after enough time to do it Will Smith finally apologized to the comedian.
It turns out the wife of Will Smith suffers from alopecia thus the joke did not go well with her. Nevertheless, Will Smith seemed drugged and aloof the whole event and he refused to leave the show after slapping Chris Rock as the organization asked him to leave the gala.
